Not So Common Toad Flax

  • Not So Common Toad Flax was taken during the superbloom summer of 2020 on the Door County peninsula of Wisconsin.  I discovered this thick patch of low growing toad flax lining a gravel parking lot near the dog park.

I had to lay down on the ground to photograph this randomly chosen bit, not realizing at the time that I would catch the illusive caterpillar of the patch.  Do you see it?

The image was taken in the field and is a natural, no-cut vignette, no flax, toads or caterpillars were harmed in the making of this photograph, but the photographer left with a bit of gravel in her backside.
